Yes, there is a free version.
The free version gives you access to:
100,000 route descriptions and points of interest worldwide
A filter by activity
Access to the Whympr community of outdoor enthusiasts on the app, the ability to follow their outings, and interact with them
All avalanche bulletins from France, Switzerland, and the USA
Access to slope inclination layers
A filter to see where flora and fauna preservation zones are (so you can avoid them during your outings)
The Premium version is paid (€24.99 per year). It includes the following features in addition to the free ones:
Access to 10 national map layers such as IGN France, SwissTopo, or USGS
3D view to visualize different map layers in 3D
Offline mode to save routes and specific maps and access them without a network
Track recording
Access to all your statistics (altitude gain/loss, distance, speed)
The ability to create and import GPX tracks
Access to your logbook to visualize your outings on a map and track your stats by activity
A filter to find routes by difficulty, rating, duration, and elevation gain
Live mountain weather conditions
The ability to see all recent outings on the map
